Sofia Margarita Vergara, a Colombian and American actress and television host, was born on 10 July 1972. She became well-known in the late 1990s while co-hosting two hit television programs for the Spanish-language television network Univision. In the 2003 movie Chasing Papi, she had her first noteworthy English-language acting role.
Vergara was born in Barranquilla to a Roman Catholic household. Her father, Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo, ranched cattle for the meat business, while Margarita Vergara de Vergara cared for the family at home. Her five siblings used to call her “Toti.”
Vergara initially spent three years studying dentistry at the National University of Colombia, but she left two semesters before graduating to pursue modeling and acting opportunities.
