Whether you’re new to the franchise or want to touch the basics before seeing the latest installment, you’ve come to the correct spot.
Technically, this part is the original movie in the series. In this only, viewers were first introduced to the Lambert family, whom Elise learned about after The Last Key.
Now, a monster that made its way through the door separating The Further from the outside world is terrorizing Dalton, the son of the Lamberts. Dalton gives off the impression of being unconscious, but in reality, he is trapped in The Further and is attempting to get home.
Elise makes the astounding revelation that she can recall Josh Lambert, Dalton’s father, from their early encounters. She tells Josh that although he shares his son’s ability to project astral images, his memories were buried to keep him safe from a monster that tormented him as a little boy.
Josh appears to have saved Dalton and brought the happy family back together as he enters The Further and drives the monster out. Elise discovers that Josh has been possessed shortly after, keeping viewers on edge as her freshly dead body is found at the Lambert residence.
Josh is being looked into for Elise’s murder at the beginning of Chapter 2, entirely ignorant that he is under the demon’s control. They touch Elise’s spirit with the aid of Elise’s crew.
Josh enters The Further once more to get rid of his belongings and finally put the tragedy behind him. Josh and Dalton are determined to live in peace when the family is reunited. It is essential to bury their memories of the catastrophe.
In 1986, Elise suppresses young Josh’s recollection of his psychic powers in flashbacks that the viewer is subjected to. These skills may be helpful for this film. Technically, Chapter 2 concludes the trilogy and offers the ideal conclusion. It also makes room for Insidious: The Red Door, though.
One interesting thing to note is that the third chapter is a prequel set before the previous chapters. Quinn (Stefanie Scott), an adolescent who wants to speak with her mother, who has passed away, seeks the help of psychic Elise Rainier in this contentious instalment.
Naturally, when possession and a brief journey to the shadowy spiritual realm known as “the Further” take place, everything goes to hell in a handbasket.
Despite what many claim, the Last Key is better than people have made it out to be. It technically occurs both before and after Chapter 3. Elise’s early years and her strained connection with her son are examined in this movie.
It should come as no surprise that Lin Shaye gives an excellent performance; the scars are firm, Elise’s granddaughter’s encounter with “Key Face” is gruesome, and there are some solid emotional moments.

It’s acceptable to avoid liking this entry because it is far from flawless. Still, it’s worth seeing again if you’re searching for a frightening horror movie.
The latest installment in the trilogy is The Red Door, which was released more than ten years after the second movie. It was titled Fear the Dark earlier, but it was changed to The Red Door at the start of 2023 to emphasize better how the Red Door is used throughout the series.

With the third and fourth films serving as prequels to the first two, the picture, which stars Patrick Wilson, appropriately takes place ten years after the events of the last one.
In the movie’s first scene, Wilson’s character is separated from his spouse and lamenting the death of his mother. The addition to the change is his son Dalton’s departure from college. However, it is difficult to repress memories of their shared suffering, resulting in a whole barrage of old and new entities.
They can only resolve their problems in the present once they confront the past. This final installment of the series aims to conclude the Lambert family’s narrative.
You can watch this horror masterpiece on various platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and YouTube.
The franchise continues to rank among the scariest films ever filmed. Furthermore, there remains a tonne of plot material in the Insidious Universe even though Lambert’s journey may have ended.
Rumors have been circulating about a new movie set in the same world. Director Jeremy Slater, a Moon Knight writer, will make his feature debut with the narrative titled Thread: An Insidious Tale, which stars Mandy Moore and actor Kumail Nanjiani.
The tale will concentrate even more on the enigmatic. Further, it will draw inspiration from Wan’s work on The Conjuring films. It is purported to be a spin-off of the main series rather than a sequel or prequel.
The title alone suggests that it is related to the current series. However, it is still being determined where it will appear in the film sequence.
Every film in this franchise delivers a unique tale with a spooky theme. They are best experienced for a more thorough understanding, but you may still appreciate each one alone for its own stories and scars.
This American horror franchise was released on April 1, 2011.
As of the most recent update, no formal announcements about upcoming movies of this franchise have been made. But considering how well-liked the brand is, future entries could be conceivable.
The Insidious series revolves around the Lambert family, who confront challenges from the spirit world as they discover their son’s ability to astral project and become a target for demons.
As of my last update, the Insidious franchise has four prominent films.
Yes, the movies are interconnected, sharing familiar characters and a storyline that spans across the series.
James Wan directed the first two films, while Leigh Whannell and Adam Robitel directed the third and fourth movies.
No, Insidious is a work of fiction, though it incorporates elements of traditional ghost stories and paranormal theories.
“The Further” is a dark, distant realm populated by spirits and demons, where the living can astrally project.
While you can watch them out of order, viewing them sequentially provides a better understanding of the overarching narrative and character development.
No direct connection, but they share creative ties with the “Conjuring” universe through director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell.
The series is known for its unique take on astral projection, its atmospheric tension, and the creation of a distinctive and eerie spirit realm, “The Further.”
As of my last update, further additions to the series were anticipated but not confirmed, indicating potential for expansion of the Insidious universe.
For more than ten years, the ‘Insidious’ film series has gripped viewers with its spine-tingling stories that examine the borders between the living and the dead. The series continues to captivate and frighten fans of the horror genre with its five films, each of which adds nuance to the eerie story, securing its position as one of the most recognizable and spine-tingling film franchises of recent memory.
